Welcome to this week’s edition of Cyber Carbon Fiber. It’s a short holiday week, so this week’s CFC comes to you early and equally short.
It’s been a big week for EVs and I expect we will see more and more carbon fiber components in the EV segment as auto companies switch to a high “fiber” diet to lose that unwanted vehicle battery weight.
Cousin to the Countach
A hybrid 800+HP Lambo is the first electrified supercar of its kind. Italian lithium-ion supercapacitor meetsV12 engine - a Tinder like matchmaking that I can get behind. I HEART the Countach-inspired taillights.
The clean looking carbon fiber details in this Sian pair well with Apple-like rose gold trim everywhere. The console / cockpit and adaptive sunroof is “lit”, as the kids say.
Tank Turn donuts anyone?
Tesla rival Rivian has sold out its first public offering of R1T and R1S electric pickups and SUVs. The chassis, aka skateboard, features a bulletproof carbon battery pack, per Teslarati’s behind the scenes tour .
Build yours online.
A recent tour of their Illinois plant was posted to YouTube as well.
It’s likely that we will see many R1Ts on the road, along with Cybertrucks and Hummer EVs.
Will they rival the King of Trucks, Ford, in volume sales? It’s unlikely, at least in the near future.
The King of Trucks continues to reinforce his fortress with new Rangers, Raptors, and Broncos like the ones shown at virtual SEMA this year.
If Ford is the King of Trucks then Rezvani just one-upped them (classic millennial culture).
The self-proclaimed God of All Trucks is here.
Forget Tank Turns, this is a real tank - the Hercules 6x6. Reminds me a lot of the vehicles from MASK. The details on this beast are limited so the carbon fiber content is unknown. The actually “Beast” , its sister sportscar from Rezvani does feature a carbon body.
Instagram Envy
BMW’s M-series has ported to 2 wheels.
The 2021 M-Series 1000RR motorcycle looks better than anything I’ve seen recently from the Japanese moto manufacturers. Maybe the Yamaha R1 product design budget was repurposed for pianos …stay-at-home economics I suppose.
The M series carbon fiber wheels come standard and this bike includes many carbon details like nose “wings”.
The Lambo STO-re Is Open for Business.
In addition to the Sian, we got the 2021 Huracan STO from Lamborghini this week - a Squadra Corse inspired street legal work of art (and engineering).
Look at these carbon door panels.
Opportunities
Three urban air mobility (aka flying cars) jobs this week from Hyundai, Kitty Hawk, and Joby - all looking for carbon fiber expertise.
New Obsession
Lastly, I’m loving the new Apple 5G iPhone 12 Pro Max that I picked up last week. Pitaka’s MagSafe compatible carbon fiber cases are beautiful. While technically aramid fiber and not carbon fiber, they are bulletproof (like literally) and affordable.
That’s it for this week. Happy Thanksgiving.
